About VA Automobile Allowance and Special Adaptive Equipment Grants

Veterans or Service members with certain disabilities can receive a grant to purchase a new or used vehicle. These disabilities must be the result of an injury or disease acquired or worsened during active military service. This grant may also be paid if disabilities are a result of the following provided by VA: (1) Medical treatment, (2) Examination, (3) Vocational rehabilitation and (4) Compensated work therapy The grant is paid directly to the seller for the total price (up to $20,577.18) of the vehicle.  A Veteran or Service member may only receive the automobile grant once in his or her lifetime.   Apply for the Automobile Allowance and Special Adaptive Equipment Grant by (1) completing Section 1 of VA Form 21-4502 (Application for Automobile or Other Conveyance and Adaptive Equipment) and (2) submitting the form to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Claims Intake Center, P.O.
