Veterans Affairs Schedule for Rating Disabilities (VASRD)

-

Veterans Affairs Schedule for Rating Disabilities (VASRD) is used by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as part of the process of adjudicating disability claims. It is a guide for evaluating the severity of disabilities resulting from all types of diseases and injuries encountered as a result of, or incident to, military service. This degree of severity is expressed as a percentage rating which determines the amount of monthly compensation.  Veterans should refer to 38 CFR Book C, Schedule for Rating Disabilities, prior to submitting a disability claim, by clicking on the link below:

VA published in the Federal Register, proposed changes to the VA Schedule for Rating Disabilities (VASRD), specifically for conditions related to the respiratory, auditory, and mental disorders body systems. The proposed updates to the rating schedule for these conditions will enable VA to incorporate modern medical data and terminology to provide Veterans with more accurate and consistent decisions. About VA Disability Ratings

-

We assign you a disability rating based on the severity of your service-connected condition. We use your disability rating to determine how much disability compensation you’ll receive each month, as well as your eligibility for other VA benefits.  If you have multiple disability ratings, we use them to calculate your combined VA disability rating. Calculating your combined disability rating involves more than adding up your individual ratings. That’s why your combined rating may be different from the sum of your individual ratings.
